What are your missed calls worth?
Work out the exposure from unanswered calls using four of your own numbers. The complete formula is published, every assumption is listed, and the output is an estimate rather than a revenue guarantee.
Four numbers, three multiplications, and the whole formula published below. The output is the size of the exposure worth investigating, not money you are owed — it cannot know whether a missed caller rang back, rang a competitor, or was never going to buy.

What you enter
- Inbound calls a month — Count them from your phone bill or your call log, not from memory.
- Percentage you miss — Unanswered, engaged, or gone to voicemail. Your provider’s call report has this.
- Of the missed ones, how many would have become work — Your own booking rate for calls you DO answer is the closest honest proxy.
- Average value of that work — Average invoice, not your largest job.
The formula, in full
Three multiplications and nothing else. No decay curve, no industry uplift, no recovery rate — every one of those would be a coefficient Balaay cannot source, and a calculator containing an unsourceable number stops being checkable.
missed calls a month = inbound calls a month × (percentage missed ÷ 100) lost jobs a month = missed calls × (conversion percentage ÷ 100) monthly exposure = lost jobs × average job value annual exposure = monthly exposure × 12
A worked example
With 200 inbound calls a month, 25% missed, 30% of those converting, and average job value set to $300: 50 missed calls, 15 jobs not won, and monthly exposure of $4,500 — $54,000 across twelve such months. Those four inputs are round illustrative figures, not a claim about any industry — replace them with your own.
What it assumes
- Every missed call is treated as independent. In practice one person often rings three times, which inflates a raw missed-call count.
- The conversion percentage you enter is applied to missed calls as though they behave like answered ones. Callers who reach voicemail may be more motivated, or less.
- Average job value is treated as constant. A month of small jobs and one large one produce the same figure here.
- Twelve equal months. Trades with a first-cold-snap or first-heatwave peak do not work that way.
- No cost is subtracted. This is gross exposure, not profit.
This is an estimate, not a revenue guarantee
This is an estimate, not a revenue guarantee. It multiplies four numbers you supplied and adds nothing of its own — no industry average, no recovery rate, no benchmark. It cannot know whether a missed caller rang back, rang a competitor, or was never going to buy, and answering every call would not convert all of them. Treat the output as the size of the exposure worth investigating, not as money you are owed.
