How AI receptionists are priced, and what that costs you
AI receptionists are priced per call, per minute, or flat. Which model costs you more when you are busy, what to ask before you sign, and Balaay’s two plans in full.
Three pricing models dominate this category and they behave completely differently in a busy month. Understanding which one you are being sold matters more than the headline number, because two of the three mean you cannot know your bill in advance.

The three models
What each one does to your invoice when the phone does not stop.
- Per call or per minute. The invoice scales with success. A good month is an expensive month, and marketing that works costs you twice.
- By quote. Common at the higher end. You cannot compare vendors without a sales call, and you cannot budget without a contract.
- Flat monthly. The figure on the page is the figure. This is what Balaay does.
What Balaay charges
Starter is $29/month and includes 250 voice minutes. Growth is $79/month and includes 1,000. Scale is $149/month and includes 2,000. Every plan answers the phone and the website, captures caller details, transfers calls and records what happened. Minutes beyond the allowance are charged per minute — $0.15, $0.10 and $0.08 by plan — and your usage is visible in the portal from the first call, with warnings at 75%, 90% and 100%. There is no mandatory setup fee; optional concierge setup is $199 once. Thirty days free, no card, month to month.
What to ask before you sign anything
Ask for the last three invoices of a customer with your call volume. Ask what happens to the price if volume doubles. Ask whether setup is refundable and whether the subscription is. Ask what the contract term is. A vendor that will not answer those four in writing is telling you something.
Working out your own number, in four lines
Take last month’s inbound call count from your carrier. Subtract the ones your team answered. What is left is the population an AI receptionist would handle. Multiply by the proportion you think would have become a customer — you know that better than any vendor — and by what a customer is worth to you. That figure against a flat monthly price is the decision. It is deliberately your arithmetic rather than a calculator we built, because every input belongs to you and a calculator with our defaults in it is a sales tool wearing a spreadsheet.
What this page will not claim
We publish no comparison table of competitor prices, because most vendors in this category do not publish theirs and the figures circulating online are third-party estimates that contradict each other.
